Pictures from my trip to the ICCV 2009 in Kyoto in September-October 2009. I stayed there for about a week and managed to do a bit of sightseeing. The pictures are sorted chronologically.

Robert Bryll (robertb) > The conference took place at ICC (International Conference Center) in Kyoto. The impressive main hall can sit up to 2000 people and follows the United Nations format. The 2D image doesn't do it justice. If I'm not mistaken, the Kyoto Protocol was signed here in 1997.

Konferencja odbyla sie w Miedzynarodowym Centrum Konferencyjnym (ICC) w Kyoto. Glowna sala miesci 2000 ludzi i jest w stylu budynku narodow zjednoczonych. Jesli sie nie myle, to w tej sali podpisano protokol z Kyoto w 1997.

Sufit glownej sali musial byc inspirowany "Bliskimi spotkaniami".

Robert Bryll (robertb) > At the conference. Notice the guy wearing the face mask. Due to a few cases of swine flu at the conference, the organizers issued face masks and throat gargle solution to all participants.

Na konferencji. Zwroccie uwage na faceta w maseczce w tle. Bylo pare przypadkow swinskiej grypy i organizatorzy dali wszystkim maseczki i plyn do plukania gardla.

Robert Bryll (robertb) > There were demos of face detection techonology with automatic gender and age recognition. I was surprised by their accuracy (after watching different people try them). Here the answer is correct...

Bylo pare demonstracji systemow okreslania plci i wieku na podstawie wygladu twarzy. Bylem zaskoczony ich dokladnoscia (obserwowalem przez chwile innych, ktorzy je testowali). Tutaj rozpoznanie jest poprawne...

Robert Bryll (robertb) > ... but a few seconds later, after thinking some sad thoughts, I suddenly aged a few years.

...ale pare sekund pozniej pomyslalem o czyms smutnym i natychmiast postarzalem sie o pare lat.

Robert Bryll (robertb) > River Iwakura crosses the Conference Center grounds. Round building in the backgrouns is the Grand Prince Hotel (what a name!) where the conferfence banquet took place.

Rzeka Iwakura przeplywa przez centrum konferencyjne. Okragly budynek w tle to hotel Grand Prince, gdzie odbyl sie bankiet konferencyjny.
